Extracts from Letters by H.P.B.

BELOW are extracts from various letters of H.P. Blavatsky as found in Countess Wachtmeister's Notebook #2. Most of these extracts are also found in ES Instruction No. VI, pp. 207-210. (See complete Instruction VI in Esoteric Papers, pp. 623-673. See also p. 560 for information about this Instruction.)

There is no danger to be feared from communication with brainless & soulless Elementals themselves but because of their followers & suite --- they never go about alone but are ever accompanied by Elementary Spooks --- suicides, criminals, brutes, unregenerated villains & so on. What's the use meddling with such creatures when one does not know to use a mystic weapon against them --- the Swastica? I say it is dangerous for if one is in the least sensitive or has some physical flaw in him --- even a pimple with corrupted matter in it --- he is sure to provoke an attempt on the part of these villainous creatures to fasten upon him & it will hurt his health if not get hold of him altogether.

Ever burning lamps are not fictitious, only Master says there is no such thing in nature as a perpetually burning lamp in Eternity, or a perpetual motion machine. Not because there is neither perpetual fire nor perpetual motion per se --- for there are every fire & every motion being sempiternal --- if not eternal; but there is no such differentiated matter on this earth that would last without wearing out at some time & falling to atoms.

LIFE as essence and entity is eternal. When we die it is not life that is instinct --- an absurd expression --- but our bodies that leave the plane of life, that ooze out, so to say, from this plane of energy into that inertia. It is the clockwork the machinery in us that wears out, not life, the garment that rots & falling into pieces deserts the body of life, not vice versa.

Life is ever present, for it is the Deity Unknown, Nameless & Unconscious (since it is the absolute Consciousness) against which your great philosopher (great indeed on the physical plane!) Herbert Spencer kicks so unphilosophically denying the reality of the Universal EGO, as of the individual Egos.

The greatest & most learned Adepts cannot continue to live in one & the same body for more than say between 300 & 400 years; after which they are forced to change it for a new one, physically --- for no bones, blood & sinews will last more than that, renew them as much as they like. You may prevent ossification & blood stagnation you cannot prevent by any alchemical process all these things to wear out automatically. You may prolong life to nearly double its duration by arresting the incessant work of life in your organism during the hours of sleep by paralyzing & bringing to a standstill all the functions of life during night & then you will have gained so many hours more to add to your conscious working life barring accidents. This is how Master makes me live more than my due. [pp. 29-31]

There was 'psychic" breeding before & there will be psychic breeding at the end of the 6th Race. There will come a time when the germinal cell, the hereditary cell which passes all the hereditary faculties & qualities physical & moral from ancestor to father & son (under the very nose of your Darwinian transformationalists & natural selection "theorists" at whom it laughs) when that all will become deserted by its tenant the Dhyan Chohanic principle --- the essence of the Kumara & the so called "Fallen Angels". It is the sorcery and sensual immorality of the Atlantis Giants that precipitated their exit from this world & the same fate awaits our sub-race of the Fifth race. There was a time when breeding was performed by men & animals in quite a different & more psychic fashion.

Why if you believe in the law of evolution how can you believe that men, plants, animals have all appeared on Earth as they are now in their "coats of skin." Evolution in Dzyan philosophy means evolving from within without. Darwin caught evolution at its middle point when all the inner principles had already budded out, & those "coats of skin" had become purely animal and reached their acme of materiality. [pp. 32-33]

The wicked father who brings deceased and sickly children into the world, has injured his own karma by creating new causes, & by injuring his miserable children he has done them good for the next incarnation for he has helped the Egos in these poor children to atone through the apparently unjust suffering in the present life for their sins in their past life. Thus goes the karmic wheel. Like attracts like. No Ego will incarnate in a foetus that does not magnetically attract him unconscious as that Ego is at the time.

There is no personal God except that God, the 7th principle within us, but believe me there are millions of personal Gods who carry out faithfully the work according to the immutable plan traced for them in the Universal mind --- Akasa, itself a reflection of the one, Eternal underlying changeless Cause of all Causes.

Monotheism is an unphilosophical absurdity; polytheism --- a logical scientific necessity --- to worship one or several or all those Gods --- is ridiculous & would amount to surrendering the will of one who is no worse than they --- only different because he is an incarnated spirit while the others are disembodied Egos, (not of the men of our manvantara of course). But to remain in harmony, solidarity of thought & singleness of purpose with one's God --- i.e. --- one's archetypic ancestor the Father, & the Son of the latter our own 7th Principle. [pp. 33-34]

The clothes of "doubles" are first formed (after the body is just dead) are the latest batch of atoms thrown off by that body & of the real atoms of the decaying body, which drawn by affinity forms into the shape of that body then, after they are scattered by disintegration & break asunder, & the form gradually fades out, there remains the astral, the purely shadowy counterpart, having no more real being then the reflections in the looking glass, no dimension of space but mayavic objectivity in the ethereal waves of space. An Occultist an Adept will always recognize the atomic from the mayavic spook. [p. 35]

Master's turban! Well that fehta in Olcott's possession is no astral counterpart, but the material atoms of the real one, disintegrated, thrown & directed through space (a yard is as good as thousand miles for electric force & no more time needed, in the duration of time, I mean for one than for the other) are reintegrated by an immediate re-cohesion on the spot selected. An astral counterpart can be thrown into objectivity only for a certain period of time, one hour or one day but must fade out. An astral double will cause the original as the copy to remain thinner, to weigh less, & in most cases the original will be ruined, though much of the material is added out of the same kind of particles that entered into the fabric --- found in Space, which is the storehouse for every kind of atoms.
